The world’s largest public cantilever, the Sands SkyPark at 200 m (656 ft) above ground, stretches longer than the Eiffel Tower when laid down and spans the breadth of four A380 airplanes. Considered the 57th floor of the hotel, the SkyPark houses a public observatory deck boasting spectacular 360-degree views, lush gardens, exclusive restaurants, and its most famous and impressive attraction—a stunning 150 m (492 ft) infinity-edged pool—the world’s highest and longest.
The pool – which is divided into 3 sections, one of which is reserved for adults only – appears to have a vanishing edge, making it one of the world’s most popular Instagram selfie spots. Open from 6 am until around midnight, the pool is only accessible to hotel guests via their room key card.
Where is it?
The Marina Bay Sands is situated at 10 Bayfront Avenue, Singapore 018956 Singapore and is right smack dab in Singapore’s prime tourist area. Located right next to Singapore’s most famous recreational area, the 250 acre Gardens By The Bay, which features popular tourist attractions like Supertree Grove, Flower Dome, and the Cloud Forest; the resort is a 20-minute taxi drive from Changi Airport along the East Coast Parkway expressway. Orchard Road – Asia’s most famous shopping street – is just a 15-minute taxi drive away. The hotel is also directly above Singapore’s MRT (Mass Rapid Transit system), making it a convenient choice if you want to discover a side of Singapore beyond Marina Bay Sands and Orchard Road.
Furthermore, even if you don’t leave your hotel room, the rooftop views alone can be worth your whole Singapore trip. From the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark and Pool, you’ll find the most amazing viewing and photo-taking spot anywhere in Singapore. Towards the east, the panoramic vistas offer a bird’s eye view of the architectural wonders of Supertree Grove, the vibrant colors of Gardens by the Bay, and the dozens of ships navigating the Singapore Strait. Towards the west, the hotel looks out over the glass skyscrapers of the Financial District, Clarke Quay and the central Civic District along Marina Bay.
Within the Marina Bay Sands resort complex itself, you’ll find yourself literally just steps from numerous other famous Singapore attractions, such as The Shoppes mall with over 300 stores and F&B outlets, featuring boutiques such as Chanel, Valentino, Gucci, Prada, Cartier, Hermès, and more; the lotus flower-shaped ArtScience Museum that hosts numerous exhibits that continuously change; Spectra, a nighttime multimedia light and water show which is the largest in Southeast Asia; and the Marina Bay Sands Casino, the world’s largest, with 500 tables and 1,600 slot machines.
The Sands SkyPark Observation Deck where the pool is located, is itself one of the city’s most popular tourist spots, boasting scenic views of the panoramic vistas of Marina Bay and Singapore’s world-class cityscape.
Highlights
At 150 meters in length, The Marina Bay Sands pool is the world’s largest infinity pool as well as the world’s largest elevated body of water outdoors. Designed with a vanishing edge, it is as if there is nothing between the swimmer and the skyscrapers in front of them. Those taking a dip feel like they are swimming into the horizon. And with its vast 478-foot span, the view from the 57th floor pool is beyond breathtaking with its seeming infinity. The Marina Bay Sands pool is such a bucket list destination that was Instagram’s most Instagrammed hotel in the world in 2017.
While it is long enough for Olympic-worthy marathon laps, the pool itself is not deep at about 4 feet. The pool is constructed with 422,000 pounds of stainless steel and holds 376,500 gallons of water.
The Infinity Pool is split into three sections: an adults-only area, a family-friendly section, and a dedicated children's pool which is located near Hotel Tower 1 and is 0.5 meters (1.6 feet) deep.
Pool Facilities
As a guest of the pool, towels and sun loungers are plentiful and provided for your convenience in the pool area. While some loungers are shaded, those at the pool’s edge stand in ankle-deep water.
Swimwear and sun care products, meanwhile, can be purchased at the SkyPark Gift Shop.
The pool area is served by three Sands SkyPark dining facilities -- LAVO Italian Restaurant & Rooftop Bar (Tower 1), Spago Bar & Lounge (Tower 2), and CÉ LA VI Restaurant, SkyBar & SkyLounge (Tower 3).
Pool Rules
The SkyPark Pool is open daily from 6:00 AM to 12:15 AM (sections of the Infinity Pool, inclusive of the North & South Gardens, are subject to closure for private events).
Do understand that the pool is strictly available for hotel guests only. You MUST be a registered guest with your key card to access the pool, and guests must present their hotel key cards upon entry. There are turnstiles to get into the pool and it is stringently guarded.
This means one registered guest = one hotel key card. You cannot book a room and invite non-hotel guests to the pool and there’s no sneaking in. Trespassers will be handed over to the authorities.
For hygiene and water quality reasons, guests must be in approved swimwear.
Once you check-out, you cannot use the pool anymore that day (even if you have to wait several more hours for your flight), which is to keep the crowds at the pool down.
As for pool etiquette, sitting on the outer edge of the pool will have the lifeguard’s whistle blow in an instant, potentially getting you kicked out of the pool. In reality, like most infinity pools, there is actually a safety ledge below the pool walls, making it impossible to accidentally fall hundreds of feet below.
As of this article’s publishing, the Sands SkyPark Infinity Pool remains open to hotel guests and continues to adhere to tightened Covid-19 pandemic measures. During this period, visitors are reminded to keep to groups of not more than two persons, while all poolside Food & Beverage services remain suspended.
Furthermore, from 20 October 2021, the pool is only open to guests who are fully vaccinated, have a valid negative Pre-event Test (PET) result, or have a valid exemption from PET. Unvaccinated children below the age of 12 are permitted, subject to the prevailing eligibility requirements mandated by the Singapore Government.
Staggered access to reduce capacity is through a queue management system. Access to the Infinity Pool at the Sands SkyPark is limited to a maximum of 1 hour 15 mins per room, per day. Guests, moreover, are required to make their pool session booking via SMS within 24 hours prior to arrival.
What People Say?
Because of its spectacular rooftop pool and unique design, this hotel is a destination in itself and enjoys a world-famous reputation. The reality is, most people book a room at the Marina Bay sands precisely to experience the wonder that is the SkyPark Infinity Pool—for first-time resort guests at least.
Because of how popular and Instagram-famous it is, the pool can get a bit crowded and is particularly quite noisy the closer you get to the kid’s area of the pool. There are even times when the deck loungers are fully occupied.
According to guests, the least crowded time to visit the pool is between 10.30 AM and 3:00 PM. That is because check out is at 11 am, and check-in starts at 3 pm. If you are staying more than one night, this gives you a unique time opportunity. Some guests have even visited the pool at the 6:00 AM opening and find themselves having it all to themselves!
It goes without saying that almost all resort guests regard the Marina Bay Sands pool as an experience that’s worth the price of the (quite expensive) room booking, describing it just like immersing yourself in the sky, at one with the clouds, making you feel like you’re lording it over a whole magnificent city-state from the loftiest of perches. Yet, the experience neither feels intimidating nor scary, even those with a fear of heights. If you’re going to travel to Singapore, the pool truly is the one reason why you should consider booking at least one night at the Marina Bay Sands to experience it for yourself.
